  Learning Danish:
Danish is a fairly easy language to learn as far as vocabulary and comprehension are concerned. However, the difficulty of learning correct Danish pronunciation should by no means be belittled.

  Programme Design:

The corner stone in understanding Danish - and being understood - is pronunciation. Hence a programme that would lead to a successful mastering of basic Danish may look as follows:

  • Pronunciation basics: learning to distinguish sounds and reproduce them.

  • Basic vocabulary: the most common words used to express daily needs.

  • Phrases and expressions: Danish is very dependent on phrases and expressions. Therefore learning what to say and what to expect in phrases is a quick way to achieving basic conversational skills in Danish.

  • With the exception of gender (t and n words), Danish grammar is a simplified version of English grammar and fairly easy to learn. The syntax of a Danish sentence is, however, different from English, hence the need to exercise sentence structure and word sequence.

An ideal course design would include the above-mentioned elements with a strong emphasis on repetition. Repeating here means revising learned structures as a homework assignment and practicing with the teacher.

Doing homework is a prerequisite for learning anything. Homework is the opportunity to repeat. Learning at its very basic level is highly dependent on understanding and repeating. In other words, the more the learner repeats, the easier and faster will learning occur.
